Thanks to all the riders for staying off the tracks during the heavy rain we had last week. We made the decision to close the Wakari Creek tracks in conjunction with City Forests and it has proved to be a good decision as the tracks have come through the rain quite well. There were some track fairies running around during the rain trying to drain the worst of it which has also helped it to recover quickly. There was over 160mm of rain in the Wakari area and the tracks can cut up very quickly with just a few riders going over them. Even though the tracks are shingled they can still take a hiding with that amount of rain. When we are building the tracks we spend a lot of time trying to get the riding surface 100% by cambering the tracks to get water to run off, putting in drains and getting the right amount of shingle on them, so if you think it is fun to ride through the mud and slop, please spare a thought for the people who have to fix it up after you.
