McGouns name change...
We've decided to call the area off Wakari Rd where we've been building mtb tracks 'Wakari Creek'.

Over the past year the area has become informally known as McGouns due to the McGouns Extension walking track that runs through the forest block. This has been causing non-bikers a bit of confusion, as McGouns track is further up the valley - branching off near the bottom of the Pineapple track. The McGouns track gets it name from McGouns Creek which is nowhere near where we're building tracks. See the following map on the DCC website.

Wakari Creek makes sense as this is the creek that the MTB track crosses several times. Given that the carpark will be on Wakari Rd it means that people will be able to find the tracks easily. Wakari Creek isn't quite as exciting as calling it the Wakari Redwoods etc, but things are usually named after geographical features. It also ties in with Ross Creek, School Creek, Nicols Creek, but feel free to call it Wakari Redwoods if you want to.

Sooo, it would be good to start using Wakari Creek for the area. We've been calling the loop that we've already built the Redwood Loop, but that's up for discussion. Will need to name the extension that we're building down the creek, and over time there's the potential for a track from the bottom of the creek up to the bottom of the pineapple track, and another one from there up to the top of the Redwoods. The McGouns Extn walking track will obviously keep it's name, as that differentiates it from the tracks that we're building and links it to the McGouns walking track further up.

Please note, City Forests built McGouns track as a walking track - it's not designed for bikes!
