Today MBO summited a joint application with Cycling Otago to the Otago Community Trust Sports funding round. The common thread is that we both want to encourage more kids on bikes - any bike.
Cycling Otago's focus is track coaching / resources.
MBO's focus is to build on the success of the South Dunedin Cycling Project beginner MTB skills and offer a second round of Intermediate and Expert courses for DN secondary schools. For this we have partnered with Scarlett Hagan www.bikeschool.co. to run courses. If we are funded we also hopefully add a Community Bike van and trailer to the mix as we have found a lot of need for getting kids and bikes places (and the DN DH Shuttle). The total application is visionary and supports a new strategy we have been working on - one aim is all about building the skills of our riders. - Its over 100K's work of stuff that sets a path for one of the few community based Schools MTB Courses in NZ -delivered by a club.
I'd like to thank Nicola Wood - Sport Otago and Mark Falcous (Cycling Otago) for being a great crew to work with.
Cycling NZ, MTBNZ and NZ Secondary Schools Sports for national level support; Otago Secondary Sports and the SDCP / DCC for getting behind the application.
If we are successful, with any funding we will be looking for co sponsorship...so spread the word.
Also thanks to the MBO Committee, you can only have a crack at this type of initiative if you have a very forward thinking group to work with that support positive stuff.
Cheers Chris (MBO)
